I recall a time when Christmas arrived. Seven children Two Adults. My parents would take all
seven of us into town to see Santa Claus and a Christmas treat. As we curved our way around
those busy streets, then we would cue up to get into see Santa in the cold or snowy weather.
We never felt the cold, we were distracted by the windows in Clery ‘s or brown Thomas. All the
toys and the different statues moving in the window . Oh what a show, As I could often
thought what Santa might bring me for Christmas. I Dare not ask for much, as there is a lot of us
to go round. If I got a doll I would be very happy.
I recall, on one Christmas we cued outside
Clery’s that year. That time Santa gave me a most wonderful gift. A game they played in
casinos. A roulette table, it was so small, but it looked very large to me. I used to pretend I was
in a casino gambling. I obviously had a great imagination.
I had never been in a casino, just what
I saw on black and white TV. I thought to myself wow. This must be a very expensive gift. Well I
took the gift home and treasured it for many a year. Another memory I recall, is every-time we
went to visit Santa. We would be taken into a café on O ‘Connell street where we all got a
Knickerbocker Glory/ Icecream Sundae.
