Angel and Snowman were happy, sitting by the tall green Christmas tree,
admiring all the bright decorations, and the colourful things they could see.
There were baubles and tinsel, in silver and gold; small clip-on birds, with feathers to hold,
fairies and reindeer, penguins and sheep; and one little baby, in a cot fast asleep.
There were rainbows of light in colours so fine; wreaths made of holly and ivy and pine;
striped candy canes and red satin bows; garlands of bells, with candles and snow.
Ribbons of pearls, and sparkling things; glittering fir cones with bright coloured strings;
small Christmas stockings full of presents and toys; some for the girls and some for the boys.
But as Angel and Snowman looked towards the top, the smiling and laughing, came to a stop.
Something was missing! Their eyes opened wide! Now they were sad, and they almost cried.
The bright shiny star was not on the tree, as Angel and Snowman, struggled to see.
They searched under the tree, all over the floor;
in case it had fallen, and gone towards the door.
They looked under the table, the chairs and the mat,
then under Simon, a small fluffy cat.
They suddenly remembered what they forgot; a friend who was missing, who they liked a lot.
His name was Terry. He lived on the shelf; a mischievous trickster; but a heart-warming elf.
Angel and Snowman crept along the hall,
and found Terry sitting, facing the wall.
They glanced at each other, when they got that far
because right next to Terry, was the bright shiny star!
The star had been taken, by Terry the elf, who took it, to hide it, all for himself.
They asked him to return it, to the top of the tree, and as he did so, they sang happily,
an old song they had heard, down through the years,
which sometimes made people, laugh happy tears….
“When Santa got stuck in the chimney, he began to shout,
‘the girls and boys, won’t get any toys, if they don’t let me out.
My beard is black, there’s soot in my sack, and my whiskers are tickling too’.
When Santa got stuck in the chimney, Aachoo! Aachoo! Aachoo!”
And oh! How they laughed, and sang as they played,
seeing the star and the brightness it made.
Now Christmas for them was going to be merry,
for our Angel and Snowman, and Simon and Terry.
So, remember at Christmas, keep an eye on your star,
as it can help Santa, to know where you are!
