The Invisible Man

by Brendan Mahon

Look at me

I am the invisible man

People walk up and down

The crowded street

Some look in pity

Some with distain

Some give coins

Why am I begging

You might ask

It’s a long story

Bit drink and drugs brought me down

I was once a successful doctor

It’s hard to believe

Look at me now

Got too many second chances

Lost all to addiction

Including my wife and home

So next time you see me

Don’t pass me by

Without looking in my eyes

To see the story

Of love and loss

Like aqualung my friend the beggar

A social outcast, a tramp

The invisible man cries
