A survey of the heart

by Laurence Meehan

I made a survey of your heart
Travelled along the canals
Looked deep inside this vessel
Every beat was mapped and analysed
And I found things I never realised.

You don’t have bad
Well not for me
I was waved through your security
Given access to every zone
Made me feel loved
Made me feel home.

Inside your heart is so warm
A place I never want to leave
The world is full of cruel hearts
Why can they all have your beat?

As I turn to sleep
You whisper to me good night
You ask me then to tell you
What did you find tonight?

I heard a new beat there
I told you in moonlight
My survey found today
You loving Poetry
in a whole new way.
