The Robin

by Laurence Meehan

So proud the little Robin

Sitting on the lawn

Just catching his worm

As the breaking of dawn

To the trees at daybreak

And a twig to carry home

To build a bigger fortress

For his family now they’ve grown

By evening in the nest

Enjoying a nibble or two

Well a birds gotta rest

Wha’ts a Robyn to do?

At night he sleeps and dreams

Of sanctuary and calm

A nest safe and sound

Until the night meets the dawn
