When James Bond was “James Bond”
It seems Bond not only died in the No Time To Die – he died some time before that! – or at least the versions portrayed by Connery. Lazenby, Moore, Dalton and Brosnan.
They were less affected by the socially careful times we live in – for better or worse! – only you can decide!!
Goldeneye came off the back of a slightly “phoned -in” outing in the shape of 1989’s Licence to Kill – not Dalton’s fault …but that film had it’s own issues!
So here we were in 1995 and the world had moved on in terms of technology and movie making.
Navan-born Pierce Brosnan took the 007 reigns this time and really looked the part – with Bono and The Edge completing the Irish contribution to the movie via Tina Turner’s top ten hit “Goldeneye”
Named after Bond Author Ian Flemmings own home – “GoldenEye” is an exhilarating adventure that captures the essence of classic James Bond films. From breathtaking stunts like the iconic bungee jump off a towering dam to the heart-pounding chase scenes, this movie delivers non-stop action and excitement. The inclusion of a memorable villainess, Xenia Onatopp, adds to the allure, reminiscent of the iconic Bond adversaries of the past.
Despite its adherence to the traditional Bond formula, GoldenEye brings a fresh perspective to the franchise. It is the first Bond film to exhibit self-awareness, acknowledging the complexity and depth of its protagonist. Pierce Brosnan’s portrayal of Bond adds a new layer of sensitivity and vulnerability, making him more relatable than ever before.
The movie also introduces a modern twist to the Bond archetype, blending classic elements with contemporary sensibilities. While the familiar tropes are present, such as the obligatory showdown between Bond and the villain, GoldenEye injects humor and self-awareness into the mix, creating a more nuanced and engaging narrative.
Moreover, the film boasts impressive special effects and exhilarating set pieces, keeping audiences on the edge of their seats throughout. From high-tech heists to intense chase sequences, GoldenEye delivers thrills aplenty.
GoldenEye is a captivating and thoroughly enjoyable addition to the James Bond franchise, offering a perfect balance of nostalgia and innovation. With its exhilarating action, charismatic performances, and modern sensibilities, it’s a must-watch for fans of the iconic spy series.
James Bond will return.
